Uptown at Bloomingdale

The main entrance of Bloomingdale School of Music on the Upper West Side

We had a great meeting on Tuesday at the Bloomingdale School of Music on West 108th Street.  Two of our Composers-in-Residence – Jeff Myers and Elizabeth Lim – met with Lawrence Davis, Executive Director, and other Bloomingdale staff for the start of their residencies. Elizabeth is focusing on religious and children’s choral music for hers, while Jeff is writing a Requiem for the JACK Quartet and soprano Martha Culver, and also a new opera about Caligula with librettist Royce Vavrek. (Jeff’s also a new dad, so he’s a busy guy these days.)

Bloomingdale, on a quiet block between Broadway and Riverside, is a jewel of old Upper West Side architecture.  The School was founded in 1964, and has been housed in this 104 year-old brownstone since 1971.  Bloomingdale is a vital part of the Upper West Side/Morningside Heights community and presents over 80 free concerts and events every year. Be sure to check out our Home Page for news of next year’s Composer-in-Residence programs at Bloomingdale.
