2012 Composer-in-Residence Jeff Fairbanks
Congratulations to 2012 Composer-in-Residence Jeff Fairbanks on being named the winner of the 2012 Sammy Nestico Award. Hosted by the United States Air Force’s prestigious Airmen of Note Jazz ensemble, the award commissions Jeff to write a new work that will be premiered and recorded by the Airmen of Note in 2013. Jeff will also have the opportunity to conduct his amazing multicultural jazz piece Mulberry Street at the Airmen of Note’s Jazz Heritage Festival in Washington, D.C. on October 26. If you’re in the area, don’t miss a chance to hear Jeff’s amazing piece. Plus, the event is free.
And on Wednesday, October 17, Jeff will take part in Flushing Town Hall’s “Korean Culture Forum: Korean Traditional Music, Today, Tomorrow.” Jeff will discuss his experiences incorporating traditional Korean music into his works. We’re thrilled to hear that Jeff has already become an active participant in the wonderful community at Flushing Town Hall.
