Our Picks For This Weekend

Kamala Sankaram’s Bombay Rickey
It’s the weekend before Labor Day, and we wanted to share with you some upcoming events featuring our composers, colleagues and friends. The lineup is fantastic. We challenge you to attend all of them!
1. International Strange Music Day Performance Soiree (Friday, August 24)
Composer/performer Patrick Grant created International Strange Music Day to bring together “some of NYC’s best and brightest composers and performers … to have a very unserious night of music making.” The event includes the fabulous Cristian Amigo and Kathleen Supove among others. Festivities begin 8pm at SPECTRUM. Tickets $10 at the door.
2. Bombay Rickey (Friday, August 24)
If you haven’t experienced Kamala Sankaram’s Curry Western/Surf Noir, don’t miss Bombay Rickey tonight. Featuring Kamala on voice and accordion with fellow band members, Bombay Rickey is an exciting amalgam of spaghetti western, Bollywood, coloratura and more. The fun starts 9pm at Brooklyn’s The Branded Saloon.
3. Ecstatic Summer (Saturday, August 25)
The third and final concert of the Ecstatic Summer series teams Grammy nominated steam punk band Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society with Brooklyn-based contemporary disco band Escort to create the summer’s best dance party. The 7pm concert is free and open to the public at The World Financial Center Plaza. More details here.
4. Danielle Eva Schwob and SYZYGY New Music (Sunday, August 26)
You won’t want to miss hearing the amazing Danielle Eva Schwob and SYZYGY New Music. Have a drink and listen to Danielle’s wonderful blend of rock and concert music. A Time Out Critic’s pick, the fun begins 9pm at Dixon Place.
