Jeff and Theo at Flushing Town Hall

2012 Composers-in-Residence Theo Metz and Jeff Fairbanks
We’re always eager to take the 7 train out to Flushing – to soak in the sights and sounds, drop by one of the great neighborhood eats, and meet up with our friends at Flushing Town Hall. Last Friday, we joined 2012 Composers-in-Residence Jeff Fairbanks and Theo Metz at Flushing Town Hall to chat about their Con Edison Residency with Executive and Artistic Director, Ellen Kodadek, and new Deputy Director, Sami Abu Shumays. As we chatted over homemade brownies and cardamom-infused coffee (thanks Sami!), Ellen laid out how Jeff and Theo might also take part in Flushing Town Hall’s wealth of programs and activities, including taking advantage of Flushing Town Hall’s affiliation with the Smithsonian Institute, applying for their Space Grant program, and collaborating with other guest artists.
This year marks our fourth year partnering with Flushing Town Hall, and we’re delighted to be working with one of the city’s most vibrant community arts organizations. Ellen and Flushing Town Hall have continued to foster relationships with previous Composers-in-Residence. In fact, 2011 Composer-in-Residence Paul Yeon Lee currently serves as a Flushing Town Hall advisory member, and fellow composer Demetrius Spaneas will be presenting a portion of his Faust opera there this fall. Many cool collaboration possibilities were discussed at the meeting, so it’ll be exciting to see how Theo and Jeff make their mark at Flushing Town Hall. Thanks to everyone for a great meet up!
