The Brooklyn Jazz Underground Festival

David Johnston

Tis the season for NYC summer music festivals, and so many to choose from! One of the many that we’re excited about is the Brooklyn Jazz Underground Festival. Celebrating their sixth annual festival, the BJU festivities will take place at Ibeam from June 15-16.  The Brooklyn Jazz Underground is a collective of local musicians supporting each others’ work and bands. Focusing on “creativity and community,” members curate a number of Brooklyn-based activities, including a weekly “Underground Works” series and a show on the Progressive Internet Radio Network.

This year’s festival will feature music by BJU members both old and new. You won’t want to miss their special performance of a newly-commissioned album “A Portrait of Brooklyn,” containing works written and performed by each member. It’s received great reviews. Give a listen here. Go check out the BJU’s website for festival lineup and tickets, and help support this talented and valuable collaborative!
