The Art of Arranging with Nicholas Urie
Traveling to the Netherlands soon? If so, you might want to stop by the town of Hooddorp on June 2nd, home of The Meer Jazz Festival, to hear some amazing jazz arrangements by 2011 Composer-in-Residence Nicholas Urie. Grammy Award winner Kurt Elling and The Metropole Orchestra will perform Nicholas’ arrangements of “Norwegian Wood” and King Crimson’s “Matte Kudasai.” But if Holland travels aren’t part of your June 2nd itinerary, stop by Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy at 10am to hear Nicholas give a talk on the art of jazz arranging. You won’t want to miss this!
In addition to his Con Edison Residency at Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy this fall, Nicholas has been busy touring across the US and Europe as a conductor and arranger. Check out his latest news and events here, as well as his latest album My Garden – a must listen.
P.S. Nicholas returns to Brooklyn on June 11th with his Carlberg/Urie City Band at The Tea Lounge. See you there, too.
