2011 Composer Spotlight: Joshua Green

David Johnston

2011 Composer-in-Residence Joshua Green

From Grace, today’s guest blogger. “Hugely gifted and prolific, Joshua Green is equally at home writing for film, television and radio, as well as composing for big band, concert and jazz. Joshua recently completed an arrangement of ‘Papa was a Rollin’ Stone’ for The New York Pops Orchestra, as well as a score for the Student Academy Award winning film High Maintenance. Currently, he is working with famed film composer Howard Shore and his music team on Hugo, Martin Scorsese’s upcoming 3D children’s film.  With a quirky cast of Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley, Hugo looks like a crowd-pleaser!

Joshua’s concert works have won national recognition, as well as performances and premiers in major venues throughout the United States. In 2009, Joshua was named the National Winner of the Music Teachers National Association Composition Competition for his chamber piece “The Muse of Distraction,” which was published last year by Carl Fischer Music.

In the coming weeks, Joshua will be in discussion with a number of chamber groups for potential commission work. And so for his residency at Turtle Bay Music School, he plans to compose a new chamber piece, as well as complete several concert works he has been craving to finish.
