Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, Katie Cox is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Wild Shore New Music in Homer, AK and Program Associate for Exploring the Metropolis. Primarily a flutist specializing in contemporary music, Katie is an active chamber musician in New York City, and has worked with a number of ensembles and new music collectives such as TRANSIT, Ensemble Signal, Experiments in Opera, SEM Ensemble, Anti-Social Music, members of eighth blackbird and Bang on a Can All Stars, Numinous Ensemble, and Contemporaneous. She is currently a musician and on the board of directors for new music ensemble Hotel Elefant. Katie has performed at some of New York’s most prestigious venues such as the Roulette Theater, (Le) Poisson Rouge, BRIC Arts Media House, Brookfield Place, Winter Garden for the Bang on a Can Marathon, Stern Auditorium and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Park Avenue Armory, and Lincoln Center for their Out of Doors Festival. She has premiered works by composers John Luther Adams, Richard Carrick, Chris Cerrone, Conrad Winslow, Mary Kouyoumdjian, Carlisle Floyd, and Anna Clyne. In addition to performing, Katie is a teaching artist for Little Orchestra Society and Wingspan Arts. She received her Bachelor of Music degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and her Master of Music Degree at the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University, Long Beach.
